Kalamansi is a private notebook for your household. This page explains what we collect and how you stay in control of it.
What we collect
Account details (name, email), the meals, recipes, and photos you log, and household membership. If you use Friends, also your handle, the kitchens you follow or ask to follow, and the cheers and comments you leave. We don't collect location, contacts, or browsing history.
How we use it
To show you your own logged meals and recipes, and to surface patterns in what your household cooks. We never sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising. To turn a voice capture into dishes and notes, we send the audio and text to third-party AI services for transcription and parsing. They process it only to provide this feature.
Who can see it
Your recipes, cooking log, notes, photos, grocery lists, and transcripts are private to your household. If you use Friends, the people you approve can see some of it, as described below. Nothing is published publicly: there are no public kitchen or recipe pages, and nobody can see your kitchen without an account and an approved follow. Voice transcripts and grocery lists are never shared.
Following a kitchen
You follow a kitchen by its handle, and someone in that household approves you. Any member of the household can approve or decline a request, and remove or block a follower at any time. A declined request looks the same as a pending one to the person who sent it. You can unfollow at any time.
What followers see
Approved followers see your kitchen's name and the people who cook there. They see the last eight weeks of what you cooked, with your notes and photos, unless you hide a dish. They see plans only when you share them, and your keepers, unless you hide one. Restaurant meals and takeout orders are never shown. Store-bought food you eat at home can be. Followers can cheer and comment on what they see. Only your household sees who cheered, each follower's comments are a private thread with your household, and both are deleted when the follow ends. Deleted comments are hidden from everyone but kept, in case of a report, until the follow ends or the dish or plan is deleted. A comment that was reported is kept with its report.
Recipes you share
Followers can open your keepers and the recipes behind the dishes and plans they see. What they get depends on where the recipe came from. For your own recipes, and recipes you typed in yourself, they see the full recipe with its steps and can save a full copy. For a recipe from a website, they see the ingredients and the link, and saving it imports it again from the site. For a recipe scanned from a cookbook, they see the ingredients and the cookbook credit, and can save it as a bookmark. Steps from a website or a cookbook never pass between kitchens.
Copies and credits
A recipe someone saves from your kitchen becomes a copy in theirs, and it always credits your kitchen by its name, or by the names and handles of the people who cook there if you haven't named it. A copy never shares its steps with its own kitchen's followers, and it can't be marked as their own recipe. Someone who sees that copy but doesn't follow you sees the recipe's name, its ingredients, and the credit, but not the steps. They can ask to follow you, and if they saved it while waiting, it becomes the full recipe once you approve them. A copy stays in the other kitchen if you later change or delete your recipe, or the follow ends.
